Otago Daily Times: Your Say

Asset sales - Key has no mandate

John Key's assertion that he has a "mandate" to proceed with asset sales is laugable.

Inappropriate cartoon

Apparently ODT has found the most stressful situation at Rotary Park School somehow amusing by allowing a cartoon to be published in today's paper... how low can you go ODT?

Mineral exploration

We may need to shout!

Recycling batteries - so much for clean green NZ

Coming back from Europe and doing a general house clean up, I gathered a bag of used batteries to be dropped in a recycled bin at my local supermarket.

Drug testing and privacy

Drug and alcohol testing has become a necessary tool for employers. It is understandable that companies would want to implement drug testing to ensure the workplace and all who work in it are kept safe. The Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 states employers have a responsibility to ensure a safe workplace and that all practical steps are taken to ensure the safety of the employees.

Health Care Oamaru

Come on Oamaru Residents, do you want to be the next person? I was reading about the lack of treatment and care given to the now deceased Mr Buchan, Sept 2011, I found this article alarming in that it says the *second complaint* for Oamaru Hospital care? Emmm!.

Drug testing

I strongly agree that drug testing in the work place can be an excellent tool for preventing workplace accidents in certain industries; for example positions that involve operating heavy machinery, driving or medical professionals just to name a few if testing is used correctly.

Asset sales

So Mr. Cull is thinking about selling assets. Well knock me down with a feather. But wait a minute, in order to sell an asset you need to actually own it. While most people say that they 'own' their own home, a sizeable proportion actually only own part of it. The rest belongs to the bank, and it is usually impossible to sell the house without their creditor's permission.
