Following a recent visit to NZ from Australia, I was taken
aback by the ease with which people can purchase alcohol - I
mean, in the supermarket?!
I am not against adults appropriately accessing alcohol for
social drinking, however I was shocked that you're selling it
in the grocery stores. Surely you can't be so thirsty for an
alcoholic drink that you need to throw in the 'turps' with
the bacon?
Is acohol an essential grocery item? The govt allows alcohol
to be sold in super markets and spends money warning people
about the effects of alcohol when drunk in excess. So there
must be a problem...
Visited NZ from Qld last year, we heard on the radio there
was an alcohol problem in many parts of the country. We are
not surprised, alcohol is for sale in every supermarket,
small or large, hotels of course, and we didnt find a single
restaurant that didnt sell alcohol. I dont think you need so
many places that sell alcohol, there no avoiding the stuff.
