St Kilda Fire Station may be getting a revamp.
A registration of interest for a tender relating to construction work on the station is logged with the online Government Electronic Tenders Service, although any potential work is ''subject to cost and finance availability'', New Zealand Fire Service region 5 property manager Stephen Hill says.
The station was built in 1965 and ''it's time to refresh the place'', Mr Hill told the Otago Daily Times yesterday.
Any work would include installing a sprinkler system, some strengthening work, a small extension to the lounge and the addition of a decontamination room, he said.
There would be little change to the exterior of the building.
The decontamination room would ''use an existing area'' within the building.
Staff were consulted and had participated in designing the proposed changes, he said.
No cost was assigned to the project yet, although those details ''will become clearer'' once the tender closed on March 10.
Similar work was planned for the Omarama and Alexandra fire stations, he said.
Options for Dunedin City Station were also being explored, he said.
Tenders for work on the station were called for in 2009, however, since then progress had stalled.
The Fire Service was ''weighing up a number of options as to the direction we are going to take with the Dunedin City Station''.
