Spelling bees were out in force in Canterbury as the Otago Daily Times Extra! Spelling quiz drew record entries this week.
The Quiz organiser and Extra! editor Ivan Behrnes said 122 teams, and 366 pupils in total, participated from schools across Canterbury.
First place in the years 5-6 category went to St Andrew's College's team two, with a score of 99/100.
They were followed by Roydvale School team one and Fendalton School team four, who finished second equal with scores of 96/100.
In the years 7-8 category, Selwyn House School team one was first with 97/100, followed by Cobham Intermediate team one with 96/100.
Third place was shared between Cathedral Grammar School team one, Clearview Primary School team two and Cobham Intermediate team two, all with 95/100.
