Millers Flat School pupils yesterday lent a hand to Alexandra BNZ workers, who were in the township to erect a tunnel house at the school as part of the bank's Closed For Good initiative.

The initiative allows BNZ staff two paid volunteer days a year, on which they can choose to take part in projects that benefit their communities.

Mr Arnott said putting up the tunnel house was a great move, and he and his colleagues enjoyed lending a hand to the school.

Mr Smith said there were seven pupils at the school who had come down from Christchurch after the February 22 earthquake.
