A district turns back the clock this weekend and celebrates
its origins in gold mining.
The Otago Goldfields Heritage Trust and Department of
Conservation are hosting a celebration of 150 years of gold
mining in Bendigo.
A ceremony marking the relocation of the Bendigo Gold Light
Co's dredge bucket ladder and the restoration of the old
bakehouse will form part of today's programme.
"It's wonderful to have the opportunity to celebrate the
Bendigo bakehouse and dredge restoration projects and
acknowledge all the parties that have been involved over the
years," Central Otago Doc manager Mike Tubbs said.
Guided walks, a run along the 14km Kanuka Trail, wine tasting
and picnic lunches are also planned to mark the anniversary.
