The 17-year-old female driver of a Toyota Surf had a
"very lucky'' escape from serious injury yesterday.
The WPS Security vehicle was heading south from Wanaka about
10.30am when it ran into loose gravel on the side of the road
at Queensberry, 4km north of Pisa Moorings, and overturned.
The driver of an 11-tonne truck, Jaden Kotuhi, of Queenstown,
had been following the Toyota about 90kmh when he saw it
suddenly "flip''.
Mr Jaden said he was expecting the worst when he approached
the badly damaged vehicle but the driver crawled out and said
she was all right.
Const Chris McAnally, of Cromwell, said McAnally said speed
and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
The young woman had a shoulder injury and was taken to the
Cromwell Medical Centre for treatment and then to Southland
Hospital.
