Two people have been injured in a single-car crash in the Cromwell Gorge, between Cromwell and Alexandra.
The injuries sustained by the two men, who are believed to be tourists, are being treated as serious.
Two helicopters will be used to take them to hospital.
The road was closed after the 4.50pm crash, but a single lane has been reopened.
