Two German teenagers injured in a road accident in the
Cromwell Gorge, in Central Otago, a week ago are still in a
serious condition in Dunedin Hospital.
The 18-year-old male driver was in a serious condition in the
hospital's high dependency unit yesterday, and his
19-year-old male passenger remained in the intensive care
unit in a serious condition. The youths, seasonal workers,
were the only occupants of a Nissan Serena people-carrier
which rolled on State Highway 8, near Italian Creek, about
8km from Clyde last Tuesday. Sergeant Simon Paget, of
Cromwell, said because of the seriousness of the young men's
injuries, the police had so far been unable to interview
them.
''However, we anticipate being able to do that shortly.''
Some members of the teenagers' families had travelled from
Germany to Dunedin to support the injured youths, he said.
