'Lucky' women unhurt after car rolls

Two holiday-makers from Christchurch were ‘‘extremely lucky'' to escape injury after their vehicle left the road near Cromwell yesterday.

The car rolled down a 10-15m bank and was halted by scrub blocking the Lake Dunstan foreshore, police said.

The two women in their 20s were travelling to Queenstown in a Mazda car and the crash happened about 5km from Cromwell, near Northburn Station.

The driver, aged 24, would face a charge of careless driving, Constable Sam Rundle said.

‘‘They realised how lucky they were not to be injured and how lucky they were not to end up in the lake,'' he said.
