Alexandra businesses may be losing customers due to all-day car-parkers in prime retail areas.

To raise awareness about parking issues in the town, the Alexandra, Clyde and Districts Business Group is conducting a flyer drop in the business area during the next week.

Chairman Bruce Davidson the information on the flyers was aimed at business owners and their staff.

''It's quite a small thing, but it can have a big bar on who walks in your door. It's just an awareness thing.

''It's a discussion that comes up with the business group regularly.''

People often parked in short-term spaces for as much as eight hours a day while they were at work, rather than in all-day parking nearby, Mr Davidson said.

''Walk the extra 50m to work.''

The flyers included information about parking restrictions in the town and a map of all-day parking locations.

Recently, the Vincent Community Board approved changes to parking restrictions to be included in a district roading bylaw.

The bylaw, which is being developed by the Central Otago District Council, would allow enforcement of parking restrictions in Alexandra, potentially ending unpoliced parking from July next year.
