Water bore deemed suitable

As the search for a new water source for Alexandra continues, the Three Waters infrastructure committee has received a promising report on results from bores drilled between August and October.

Committee chairman Steve Battrick said a bore drilled next to the existing Clyde bore, in Lake Dunstan shoreline gravels, provided the option the council had been looking for.

Two bores were drilled, one close to the Clyde bore and another closer to the Clyde Dam.

The first bore was pumped at 127 litres a second, with a drawdown of 0.72m when pumped at the same time as the Clyde bore and provided similar water quality.

The council decided a bore near the Clyde water source would be the preferred new Alexandra water source.

It decided to budget $11.5 million for development of the supply.

Cr Martin McPherson said there was ''obviously plenty of water there, [and the] potential to assist with development of other areas between Alexandra and Clyde''.
