Cromwell's i-Site has reopened in its new location in time for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

The new building on the northern side of the mall facing Murray Tce opened on Thursday afternoon.

Central Otago District Council community service manager Anne Pullar said a key feature of the new i-Site was a series of digital screen displays and interpretative wall panels promoting the region.

She encouraged people from the area to ''come in and have a look''.

''We hope it will make them feel proud of their town and region and the way we are showcasing it to visitors.''

The i-Site has, until now, shared a building with the Cromwell and Districts Museum, which will remain in the old building, operated by volunteers.

Opening the new facility brings an end to a nine-year process to establish a new i-Site in Cromwell.

Helen Scoles will manage staff at the facility, which will be open from 9am-7pm daily.
