Many people in the region were out enjoying the fine weather early, with many boats on Lake Dunstan by mid-morning and families staking out their spots on the shoreline with brightly coloured rugs and umbrellas.

The fine weather is forecast to stick around today, with a high of 30degC predicted for Central Otago.

However, MetService predicts rain and cloudy weather for the weekend in the region, with highs in the mid-20s and northwesterly winds dying out.
