VetEnt will no longer provide dog registration services for Central Otago. As of March 1, registration for new dogs in the region or puppies under 3 months of age will be moved to an online service.
A company called Reg the Dog has been contracted by the council to operate the service.
The shift is a Central Otago District Council effort to provide more services via its website.
VetEnt, previously Central Vets, had provided the registrations for 20 years.
A council spokeswoman said moving registrations online would speed up the process, make it easier and, hopefully, allow a fee reduction.
Dog owners with already registered animals will receive information about renewals from Reg the Dog mid-year.
Those without internet access or who have further questions can contact Reg the Dog.
