Clyde: Collision in gorge

A crash in the Cromwell Gorge near Clyde yesterday morning was caused when a driver of a utility failed to give way, police said.

Emergency services were called to the crash, at the corner of Sunderland St, which leads to Clyde, and State Highway 8, about 7.20am.

Two people received minor injuries and were treated by St John.

Senior Sergeant Brian Benn said the driver of a Fulton Hogan utility heading south attempted to turn right at the intersection and the vehicle collided with a car travelling towards Cromwell.

''It was a significant impact ... so they were lucky it was minor injuries.''

Both vehicles received frontal damage.
