The Maniototo community is to make a show of support for keeping its library in the present location at a meeting next week.
Community workshops to help people develop letters of concern about a planned move of the library are being held in Ranfurly this week, with the letters to be presented at the meeting on Wednesday.
A petition to keep the library where it is will be presented with the letters.
So far, it had almost 500 signatures, a Ranfurly businesswoman said.
Representatives from the Central Otago District Council, the Maniototo Area School Trust and the Maniototo Community Board will attend the meeting.
Residents from the area have been up in arms since the council announced it planned to move the library from where it shares a facility with the school's library.
Amie Pont said the community was not going to stop fighting the move.
''None of the community benefits have been considered. It's just black-and-white decision-making and cost-cutting.''
Neither the school nor the community board were consulted about the decision, which was made at a closed council meeting in February.
The move was planned to happen by mid-July.
The libraries have shared a building since 2000.
Tensions ran high at a meeting about the library in Ranfurly on Monday attended by about 100 residents and Central Otago Mayor Tony Lepper, as well as other community leaders.
It had been planned to enable people to show support for a call by the school board of trustees to review the decision.
At that meeting, Mr Lepper suggested people make submissions on the district's long-term plan if they wanted to object to the decision.
The next workshop will be held at 3.30pm tomorrow at the library.
