Pair claim a close second

It was close but no cigar for Danseys Pass farmer Neville Hore at the New Zealand sheep dog trial championships at Moawhango, near Taihape.

Mr Hore and his dog Vic Jnr finished second in the final of the short head and yard on Saturday, 0.5 points behind the winners, Merv Utting and Prince, from Gisborne.

Earlier, the pair were placed sixth in the North Island championship with 95.5 points and they had the highest-scoring run in the New Zealand final of the event with 95 points.

Mr Hore was named as reserve in the New Zealand team for the transtasman challenge.

The team comprises Murray Child and Dice (captain), Andy Clark and Lady, Eion Herbert and Storm, and Merv Utting and Prince.
