Wine tasting caravan test run this summer

A proposed pop-up wine-tasting caravan near Sam Neill's Bannockburn winery will be a trial run for future seasons.

Representatives of Two Paddocks winery made a submission to the Central Otago District Council's hearings panel this week for resource consent for using the Airstream caravan.

It will operate for two weeks from January 5, 2016, on a neighbour's paddock at the end of Felton Rd offering wine tastings. It will be paired with a food stall.

Two Paddocks administrator Jenny Blance said if the project was successful, it would do the same each year.

''It is our understanding that if our application was accepted, it would be more straightforward in the future,'' Ms Blance said.

Neighbouring wineries Mt Difficulty, Terra Sancta, Felton Rd and Akarua all supported the project, she said.

Council planning consultant David Whitney said the project would have no adverse effects on traffic or the environment and requested the application be granted with conditions.

The decision would be made within 15 days.
