Future of trees awaits report

The fate of a patch of poisoned trees near the Alexandra Bridge is uncertain.

Land Information New Zealand (Linz) is analysing the damage caused to more than 30 poplar trees and one oak tree on land it administers, after it was notified of the incident by the Otago Regional Council last week.

Linz Crown property group manager John Hook said the organisation was arranging for an arborist to inspect the site.

"Until that inspection has been carried out, we're unable to say what will happen to the trees.''

Alexandra police are investigating the incident.
