Twice-yearly water billing

Cutting water billing back to twice-yearly is likely to save the Central Otago District Council at least $20,000 annually.

The change from thrice-yearly to twice-yearly billing was approved by the council yesterday.

It will affect council-owned water supply consumers. Water meters were introduced on most council-run water supplies several years ago. The main advantage in changing would be savings from fewer meter readings and invoices, council revenue and financing manager Jamie Cunningham told the council.

He said $20,000 was the ‘‘conservative'' estimate of likely savings. More than 8500 water consumers in Clyde, Roxburgh, Alexandra, Bannockburn, Naseby, Omakau, Ranfurly, Patearoa, Cromwell and Pisa will be by the billing change.

Consumers will still have the option of paying their water bills by regular instalments throughout the year.
