Civil construction worker Steve Maund lays the groundwork for a toilet installation on the Clyde-Alexandra Riverside Trail.

The 4000-litre dry-vault toilet is being installed about 3km from Alexandra, near the trail's Marshall Rd entrance.

Central Otago District Council planning and environment manager Louise van der Voort said the need for a toilet on the trail was raised through community feedback during the council's annual planning process.

It would be available for public use in about two weeks, she said.

The project would cost $25,000, she said.

It would be paid through the Clutha Management fund, which is rated across Vincent, Cromwell and Teviot Valley wards.

Data in 2010 estimated between 50,000 and 60,000 people a year used of the track, but current use was estimated to be greater, she said.
