The director of a company proposing a satellite research centre based in Alexandra says he is ‘‘pleased'' the proposal has reached the last funding round, but there is still work to do.

Last week, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment announced the proposal for the Centre for Space Science Technology (CSST) made the shortlist of its $25 million Regional Research Institutes scheme along with two other applications.

Bodeker Scientific director Greg Bodeker, whose company is heading the proposal, said he would be ‘‘excited'' if it became reality.

‘‘Of course I am pleased that we are now in the final three concept proposals, but we are not there yet and there will be a lot of work to be done to develop a sound business case for CSST.

‘‘CSST represents a great opportunity for Alexandra, for Otago and for all of New Zealand.''
