Getting ready

Palmerston residents are planning to celebratethe 150th anniversary of the town's establishment.

Things already planned include the 150th anniversary of the first communion service to be held at Palmerston-Dunback Presbyterian church in January and a history of the Shag River Fishing Club.

The 1913 Palmerston 50th anniversary street procession and sports afternoon may also be replicated.

Other suggestions include an essay competition, a hangi, a T-shirt to mark the 150th anniversary and events combined with Kelly's Canter race up Puketapu. Community groups are invited to a meeting on July 16 to discuss progress.
