4WD enthusiasts got downright dirty at the Rotary Club of Waitaki's mud-plug on Saturday.

Conditions at Tim Fox's property at Gemmells Crossing, near Reidston, were ideal for mud-lovers, after days of heavy rain.

While it was muddy underfoot, the day dawned fine and a large crowd of spectators turned out to watch the action.

Mud was flying and tractors and other vehicles were kept busy pulling out stuck vehicles as drivers attempted to negotiate the hazards, which had such intriguing names as Woopti Woo.

The event, now in its second year, attracted about 30 entries and from as far afield as Bluff.

Money raised from the event will go towards Rotary projects.
