Waitaki district councillor Rod Bidois has withdrawn his
nomination for next month's local body elections.
Cr Bidois was elected to represent the Oamaru ward in 2004
and said yesterday, while he had enjoyed his six years as
councillor, at times it had been frustrating.
He has recently accepted employment with the Waitaki Resource
Recovery Trust, which operates the resource-recovery park in
Oamaru.
The new position entailed learning all facets of the
resource-recovery park operation.
Because it was a full-time position, he felt he could not
also do justice to the job of councillor and council
obligations.
Cr Bidois believed the present council under the leadership
of Mayor Alex Familton had performed well in the past three
years.
"I just hope the momentum in regard to the lowering of
spending in this time is not lessened, especially in relation
to unnecessary operational bureaucratic expenditure," he
said.
