Canterbury farmers, and those in the Waitaki Valley, have
been warned to check about water restrictions as the new
irrigation season begins.
Environment Canterbury (ECan) has urged farmers to check
their water consents to ensure they know their irrigation
restrictions based on minimum flow conditions put in place to
safeguard river and stream values throughout the region.
They also need to check ECan's internet web page or phone-in
system to find out what, if any, restrictions may be in place
that could affect their irrigation takes.
That service is updated each afternoon, with restrictions
applying from midnight for the next day.
It is the responsibility of the consent holder to check any
restrictions, particularly when conditions can change
significantly within a day.
According to the ECan website yesterday, the only
restrictions were in parts of the Opihi, Waimakariri and
Ashley catchments.
