North Otago company Waitaki Bacon and Ham is continuing to make a name for itself in the food industry.

Owners Gus and Sue Morton were recommended to enter the New Zealand Food Awards, with the winners being announced at a gala dinner in Auckland next Thursday.

The awards, in association with Massey University, were a celebration of innovation in food.

The judging panel is led by chef and food writer Ray McVinnie.

Mr and Mrs Morton have entered their pate, ham and signature rustic pork sausage.

The Waitaki Bacon and Ham sausage was named best new hospitality food or drink product at the Fine Food New Zealand exhibition in Auckland earlier this year.
