The horses are groomed, the track is hard and fast and the scene is set for the second Wacky Race Day at Centrewood Estate, at Waimate, on Sunday.

The race day, with pantomime horse races, will raise money for Hospice South Canterbury.

Personalities from South Canterbury and North Otago would go head-to-head in races in the gardens of the historic property, with a "few obstacles in the way", organiser Jo Sutherland said.

The overall winner will compete for the Tui Cup and Tui dollars can be bought on the day for betting, with appropriately dressed "bookies" on the grounds.

As well as six races on the card - with themes of builders, sheep farmers, ladies, businesses, dairy farmers and sporting - there will also be hobby horse races for children, and prizes for the best-dressed man and woman.

Food and drink will be available and the event will be held between 11am and 6pm.
