Country lodge wins national award

Dome Hills Station High Country Lodge, in North Otago, has won the best nationwide hotel category in the Corporate Events Guide People's Choice Awards.

The lodge was opened in 2008 by Cindy and David Douglas, who farm Dome Hills, a sheep and cattle station at Livingstone, 12km southwest of Duntroon.

Mrs Douglas attended a gala dinner at Ellerslie racecourse in Auckland where she was presented with a trophy.

She said the award was recognition for what was being done in the district.

Dome Hills offered guests a high-country experience and holiday with an opportunity to explore the hills on foot, mountain bike or horseback.

Being part of a working station was a big attraction - guests got the opportunity to watch farm activities, Mrs Douglas said.

Oamaru's Criterion Hotel was among the other finalists in the category.
