A farmers' market will open in Oamaru next spring in conjunction with Rugby World Cup celebrations.
The concept and business plan developed by a working group has been accepted by the Waitaki Development Board.
At this stage, the weekly Sunday market will be held in the harbour area, depending on successful licence and resource consents.
While it was hoped it would eventually run all year, planning at the moment was for a seasonal market.
The market will be affiliated to the New Zealand Farmers Market Association and will be for local produce only. A part-time co-ordinator will be appointed.
