Author and Victoria
University programme director Conal McCarthy, who has strong
links with North Otago, is this year's guest at the annual
Forrester and Lemon Memorial lecture in Oamaru.
The lecture is organised annually by the North Otago branch
of the New Zealand Historic Places Trust and is part of the
Victorian Heritage Celebrations.
Dr McCarthy is director of Victoria University's museum and
heritage studies programme and will deliver the Forrester and
Lemon lecture at the Opera House on November 18 at 12.30pm,
branch chairwoman Carol Berry said.
Dr McCarthy was born in Central Otago and grew up in North
Otago. He was educated at St Kevin's College. He has
maintained strong links with Oamaru, particularly through his
interest in its Victorian heritage buildings.
His subject will be: "Temples strayed from Athens: Victorian
Oamaru and New Zealand colonial architecture".
