Big interest in this year's music hoedown at Omarama could
see about 1000 people at the event's peak on Saturday night
and more than 200 campervans on site.
This is the 25th anniversary of an event that started at
Hakataramea, went to Otematata, and last year was held at the
Countrytime Hotel in Omarama.
One of the event's organisers, Ferg Mitchell, said there had
been a lot of inquiries from all around New Zealand about the
three-day event, which starts tomorrow.
Last weekend, organisers put up a big marquee, about twice
the size of that used last year, which struggled to cope with
the big crowd. This year, there is also provision to expand
it if extra space is needed.
The hoedown starts tomorrow with busking in the Omarama town
centre and continues with entertainment on Saturday and
Sunday. The "Country Showcase" on Saturday night is the big
event.
Accommodation in the town has been heavily booked and
campervans have been setting up on the ground next to the
hotel.
