No information has been forthcoming regarding the claims of a
cyclist that he was shot at by the occupants of two vehicles
on State Highway 8 near the Omarama Top Ten Holiday Park on
Sunday afternoon.
Community Constable Bruce Dow, of Oamaru, said yesterday
while members of the public had expressed disgust at the
alleged actions of those involved, no new information had
emerged.
The cyclist, in his early 60s, who declined to be named, told
the Otago Daily Times on Monday he was on SH8 near
Omarama about 5.15pm when two vehicles overtook him.
He said a passenger in the first vehicle, a black Mitsubishi
Lancer, fired two shots, which were followed by a further
shot from the trailing off-white Toyota Hiace van.
The man said it was among the scariest moments of his life.
