An investigation is under way in Oamaru after police located a suspected stolen firearm at a residential address on Tuesday night.
Senior Constable Carl Pedersen said police were called to a domestic incident on Stoke St in the evening, and were then called back to the address on another matter. A .22 rifle was found.
"We believe it may be the proceeds from a historic burglary."
He said inquiries would continue into the matter, but the fact that the rifle had never been reported as stolen caused problems.
