An Otematata man will face a firearms charge after allegedly
threatening unruly teens with a rifle.
Detective Warren Duncan said a 52 year-old local man was
arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm
yesterday morning.
''Last night [Thursday] about 10pm there was an incident at a
guy's house, who got home from work to find that some young
people had lit a bonfire in his driveway and had used some
stuff around his yard to set it alight.''
Det Duncan said the youths ''got cheeky'' with the man.
''Basically it developed to a point that he got so angry he
drove to a park where a whole lot of youths were and
presented a firearm,'' Det Duncan said.
The man was confronted by about six police officers and taken
into custody, and would appear in court in February.
