Children in Waitaki are being encouraged to attend the annual
Waitaki Road Safe cycle skills fun day today to ensure their
bicycles are safe to ride.
The fun day, which takes place from 1.30pm at Takaro Park in
Oamaru, would be open to children aged between 4 and 12.
Co-organiser Catherine Wilson said although members of
Waitaki Road Safe and police personnel would be present to
check the children's bikes, there would also be plenty of fun
activities.
''A range of activities will be held including an obstacle
course, a road sign course, a fast race and a course designed
by wheelman David Wilson, who will be bringing along some
penny-farthings for the children to try on his course.
''Included also on the day is a magician show by Timaru
magician Russell Hendry. This is a free day and all children
will go home with some free bike-related goods as well.''
A limited number of bikes and helmets would be available for
those children without a bike, Mrs Wilson said.
