Waitaki Boys' High School pupils Josef Taylor and Samuel Wilson were presented with their Grand Prior armbands at an award ceremony last week.
Oamaru youth division manager Raewyn Harbourne said the Oamaru youth section now had a total of three Grand Prior recipients in its ranks.
The award, which required cadets to attain 12 activity badges and took about three years to achieve, was the result of ''a lot of hard work'', Mrs Harbourne said.
The boys' sense of achievement at attaining the Grand Prior award was shared by the whole youth section, Mrs Harbourne said.
Both boys had completed voluntary community service, working with the SPCA and local rest-homes in their own time, she saidJosef said he was ''very pleased'' to be given the award, which was the result of three years' work.
It was ''a lot of work'', but also ''a lot of fun'', he said.
Samuel said it was ''very rewarding'' to get the award, adding he would continue to work towards a career in the ambulance service.
