Leah Gourley (14), of Oamaru, is all smiles after taking part in the inaugural Rainbow 5km Colour Run at the Oamaru Racecourse on Saturday.

Dressed in white, the 600 competitors walked or jogged around the course and were greeted at each kilometre by a Colour Station sponsored by a local business.

At these stations entrants were doused in brightly coloured corn starch.

Kate Cartwright, from Sport Waitaki, said that it was great to organise such a positive event promoting fitness and wellbeing while catering for a range of ages and abilities.

The run, sponsored by Rainbow Confectionery, is a non-profit event and proceeds raised go to Sporting Chance, a fund that enables local children from families in financial hardship to participate in sport. The final amount donated will be known in the coming days.
