About five months after stands at the Waimate racecourse were wrecked by gale-force winds, plans under way to raise them from the ruins.
The whole public stand and sections of the members' stand at the trustee-administered racecourse were damaged by storms in September and, although the annual trotting fixture went ahead in December, there was no grandstand for the first time in 100 years.
Racecourse trustee and Waimate Trotting Club secretary Robbie Crawford yesterday said trustees would meet builders this week to formulate a ''concrete plan'' for the future.
''That will give us some idea of what we can and can't do and that's where we're at. We're ... just waiting for a better idea of what we need.
''The insurance company have paid out; we just need to decide how we attack it - whether we rebuild or whether we look to repair what is already there ... it's just a matter of which way we go.''
Details of the insurance payout remained confidential, he said.
