Eighty submissions on annual plan

Submissions on the Waitaki District Council's 2014-15 draft annual plan closed on Tuesday, with about 80 received.

Waitaki Mayor Gary Kircher said no central theme emerged from the submissions, as ratepayers had their say on a variety of different issues.

''People throughout the district have raised excellent points surrounding the rural roading network, biodiversity, parks and reserves and irrigation schemes,'' Mr Kircher said.

Councillors will hear 35 verbal submissions from individuals and special interest groups at a public meeting on May 14.

Final decisions will be made by June 11, with the final 2014-15 annual plan formally adopted by the council on June 25.

Mr Kircher said it was ''pleasing'' to see Waitaki residents had carefully considered a large range of matters, from earthquake-prone buildings to changes to New Zealand Transport Agency funding for the roading network.
