One nomination so far for by-election

Only one nomination has been received so far for a by-election to fill a vacancy for the Corriedale ward on the Waitaki District Council.

It has come from Fuchsia Creek resident Guy Percival, who stood in the elections last year and finished third, missing out on being elected by 144 votes behind Cr Sharyn Price. He has been nominated by former councillor Kevin Malcolm and seconded by Graeme Isbister.

Cr Price resigned on June 19 because the after-effects of a life-threatening brain haemorrhage in early January had made it difficult for her to fulfil the role.

Deputy electoral officer David Blair said that no other nomination papers had been handed out, as far as he was aware.

Nominations opened on June 24 and close at noon on July 22.

If more than one nomination is received and an election is needed, it will be by postal ballot and voting will close at noon on September 22.
