Tourism appointment

A new marketing manager has been appointed for Tourism Waitaki. Ian Elliott replaces Megan Howell, who left earlier this year to rejoin family in the North Island.

The organisation, owned by the Waitaki District Council, has also lost events manager Jan Kennedy, who is overseas and could not be contacted for comment.

Tourism Waitaki general manager Jason Gaskill said yesterday what would happen with the events manager vacancy would not be decided until Mr Elliott arrived.

Mr Elliott has had experience in marketing, communications and business growth, from establishing a mountain biking business at the Royal Hotel in Naseby, to managing an IT academy in Auckland.

With a tourism qualification from the University of Otago, he has a strong interest in utilising effective marketing to achieve growth for the benefit of the Waitaki region.

''His ability to develop markets, develop products, and develop staff will have a profoundly positive impact on both Tourism Waitaki and the region,'' Mr Gaskill said.

Mr Elliott and his family have returned to live on the Waitaki Valley farm his grandfather purchased in 1920.
