Audience participation and laugh-until-you-cry comedy were on the menu at a dinner theatre on Saturday night.

Doug Kamo Creative Management presented its Faulty Towers dinner theatre to a capacity crowd at the Otematata Community Centre in memory of Ronnie Munro, to ensure his good work in the Waitaki community was continued.

Organiser Brent Cowles said $5000 was raised for community projects.

But the evening was really about bringing everyone together for a laugh and celebrating the life of Roualeyn ''Ronnie'' Munro, who died after a jet-boating accident on the Waitatoto River near Haast in March.

The farmer and volunteer firefighter played a huge role in the Otematata and wider Waitaki community.

''Ronnie Munro was a great man and a great community man, and in his honour, that's why we're here - celebrating community and the things we can do in the community,'' Mr Cowles said.

Mr Munro's wife, Vicky Munro, said it had been a wonderful night full of laughter.

''Our community is amazing,'' she said.

Fresh from directing Taieri Musical Society's production of Mamma Mia!, Doug Kamo, of Dunedin, starred as restaurant owner Basil alongside Jodie Bate, as his wife Sybil, and Danny Still as Manuel, the confused and put-upon waiter from Barcelona.

For two hours, the actors interacted among guests and moved seamlessly from one scenario to another commanding attention and focus.

The actors played out a series of original scenarios through improvisation and physical comedy, insisting on audience participation and never let an opportunity go by.
