80-year-old man faces charge of threatening

An 80-year-old Oamaru man has been summonsed to appear in the Oamaru District Court on October 22, after allegedly threatening a security guard at the Oamaru Work and Income New Zealand office last week.

Sergeant Tony Woodbridge, of Oamaru, said a complaint was filed by Winz staff just after 4pm on September 16.

''We had some evidence as to who the person was, but not a name,'' Sgt Woodbridge said.

''That person was spotted in the weekend, stopped and spoken to by police and has been summonsed.''

He faces one charge of threatening behaviour. Last week, Sgt Woodbridge said the threats came after the 80-year-old was allegedly ''disgruntled'' while in the office, ''not happy having to wait for something and took it out on the security guard''.
