Pristine white outfits turned into rainbow shades as 13-year-olds Kaylee Hudson, Abigail Ross and Latisha Halcrow took part in the 5km colour run at the Oamaru racecourse on Saturday.

The three Oamaru teenagers were part of a crowd of about 720 which took part in the Rainbow Confectionery run, bettering the 600 entries for the inaugural event last year.

Mostly dressed in white, competitors of all ages, from children to retirees, ran, walked or strolled around the course, passing five stations where sponsors tried to cover as many as possible with coloured corn starch powder.

While some competitors came in covered in powder of different hues, some were more subdued in their approach.

Proceeds from the event go to Sport Waitaki's Sporting Chance, which provides sports equipment and assistance for underprivileged children.
