Key advice from sports psychologist

One of the keys to achieving sporting success at the elite level will be revealed by a Dunedin-based sports psychologist in Oamaru next week.

Organised by Oamaru sporting enthusiast Adair Craik, in conjunction with Sport Waitaki, a visit by researcher and lecturer at the Otago Institute of Sport and Adventure at the Otago Polytechnic, Simon Middlemass, will provide an insight into how schools, sports coaches and athletes can provide the necessary tools and knowledge to help athletes.

A sports psychologist from the United Kingdom, Mr Middlemass has worked for the English Institute of Sport and been a private consultant with a range of sports.

''This is a must-come, must-listen, must-learn, from someone who has been there and done that and I strongly encourage principals of schools, teachers, coaches, mentors, and athletes who have the desire to achieve, to come and listen to what could ultimately change your lives and those that you teach and mentor,'' she said.

The session will be at St Kevin's College auditorium on Wednesday at 7pm.

Bookings can be made through Sport Waitaki.
