Kimberley Mavor has been passionate about dance since she was 4 years old and for the past 15 years she has been sharing her passion with the community.

Mrs Mavor's School of Dance presented its annual end-of-year variety concert to a big crowd at the Oamaru Opera House on Sunday, showcasing the talent of the students.

Sixty-four students, ranging in age from 3 to 20, performed for family, friends and members of the community.

Mrs Mavor said she was delighted with the way the show ran.

''Obviously, Highland [dance] has a very competitive side with numerous competitions, but that is not everyone's cup of tea [and] concerts are a great way to put everyone on the same level peg and learn to work with others,'' she said.

''Most of all, it is creative, different and fun.''

Mrs Mavor loved seeing her students active and moving.

''Dance has been a passion of mine since I was 4 years old and to this day I am still passionate about what Highland dance has to offer,'' she said.

''I believe it is a disciplined art form that sets kids up for all walks of life.''

Mrs Mavor is responsible for the sound and choreography of the shows and, with the help of Dave Devon and Greg Lovatt, from the Opera House, the show is put together incorporating lights and effects.
