Website for cultural activities

A ''one shop front'' for four Waitaki cultural facilities has been launched by the Waitaki District Council.

Culture Waitaki is the new collaborative online website of the Forrester Gallery, North Otago Museum, Waitaki District Libraries and Archive and Oamaru Opera House.

The www.culturewaitaki.org.nz site has a ''what's on'' for the four facilities, and links to their individual websites.

Forrester Gallery curator Alice Lake-Hammond said the project had been under development for some time.

It had started with the basics, a ''What's On'' and a blog, but more collections and resources would be added in the future by all four facilities.

The gallery had been online since 2008 to share its collections and exhibitions.

The new website was an extension of that.

Museum curator Chloe Searle was excited about sharing more of its collections and their stories through the website.

''As we move towards the redevelopment of the cultural facilities we want to do more online.

"Our latest exhibition, 'From little towns in a far land', will be accompanied by informative blog posts about local First World War stories on the Culture Waitaki site,'' she said.

Community services librarian, Jean Rivett said Culture Waitaki was ''a one-stop shop front'' where the community and visitors could easily access a whole range of activities, events and exhibitions happening in the Waitaki district.
