Waimate Mayor Craig Rowley said the recipients were all ''unsung heroes in the field of voluntary community service''.
For the first time in the six years of the awards a young person was recognised, with the new Youth Civic Award presented to Elliot Wilson (18), who is involved in miniball and basketball in the district.
Mr Crean's award was in recognition of his work with the Savage Club, Lions Club, Waimate Golf Club and Waimate Resource Centre; Mrs Dennison for her involvement with Senior Net and other groups; and Mr Leinert for his involvement with cycling and athletics.
